Is Knowledge The Answer?
Topic: Knowledge Verse: Ecclesiastes 1:12–1:18
Pastor Art Azurdia preaching part three of the series, "In Search Of Meaning" from Ecclesiastes 1:12-18.
Solomon continues along the same line of thinking that apart from God there is no enduring benefit from any human endeavor. Now, Solomon sharpens his focus in asking and answering questions more specifically and autobiographically. If you remove God from consideration what can you anticipate if you seek your life's significance in the pursuit of knowledge? If anyone could ever find meaning and significance by virtue of his brains, it would be this man, to whom God had given unparalleled wisdom. However, Solomon and for that matter, any person seeking to find life's significance through knowledge, will find it unattainable and leading to an inevitable futility and an inescapable agony. It is only in a life lived in connection to the living Lord where we can find a wisdom from "above the sun", a wisdom emblazoned on a cross to give us true meaning and significance in a fallen world. Because of what Jesus accomplished on the cross, we can be sure that someday all of our "knowing" will be free from every sorrow and grief.
